Christians who believe Jesus Christ is Lord (fully God and fully man), that He must be your Lord in order to be your Savior, and that salvation is all God's doing and none of ours. Most of us are from the PMR group (Pretty Much Reformed)

    Where I came from

Post by GMcClain20 on Thu Feb 12, 2009 4:32 pm

I was raised in a decent household which believed in God and Jesus Christ. I think our confession was something like if you believe in Jesus and try to do good then you will go to heaven. Faith+works basically. We didn't go to church regularly, but I did enjoy a good family environment.

I spent several of my young adult years involved in worldly pleasures of all sorts. After some trouble with drugs when i was about 20 and a divorce when I was 24 I finally turned to Christ for salvation in 2005. Actually my family had became true Christians a few years earlier and were instrumental in my conversion.

What converted me? God used my sin to break me down. Once I hit bottom I could finally see through the mess that my life had been and see my deeds for what they were, gross transgressions against the God of the universe. From that dark place I could finally apprehend God's grace in Jesus Christ and I believed on Him for salvation.

I spent most of 2005 soaking up pretty much anything that claimed it was Christian. From TBN, to word of faith, to Catholicism, to mysticism. I became reformed just before 2006 after reading Spurgeon's "All of Grace." I had already believed in God's grace in my salvation but I hadn't seen it laid out the way Spurgeon did it. So I became reformed and gave up all other erroneous theologies.

I enrolled in Moody Bible Institute last year and am currently seeking a BS in Biblical Studies. Hopefully I'll enter ministry in some form after that or go to seminary if at all possible.

great testimony, Travis. God is so faithful to bring His children to the truth.

God will use your experiences in those erroneous teachings to help bring others to the truth.

Just to add a few details about myself as per Ivan's request:

My name is Travis McClain (it's in my signature to)

I live in North East Florida in a small town called Palatka (Babe Ruth headed a kids baseball camp/league here actually for anyone who's a baseball fan)

I grew up loosely affiliated with the Church of God (it's the denomination listed on my U.S. Army issue dog tags anyhow). When I actually got saved I became a member of a small nondenominational community church which was very arminian and charismatic friendly. I've recently found a nearby OPC church plant which I've been attending a few months and hope to join in the near future.
