I wanted to give my two cents and say that I'd prefer not to have the "Thank user for this post" option that other boards do. In my opinion, it becomes more of an "I agree with this post," such that often even polemic posts get a lot of thanks just because people on one side of the debate want to show their support.
I say, if you want to thank someone for a post, hit reply and write "Thank you, that was an insightful post!"
