    Gerhardus Vos?

Post by GMcClain20 on Sun Feb 15, 2009 3:55 pm

I've been reading some miscellaneous stuff available online by Gerhardus Vos. Also my pastor is a big fan of his work. I haven't had time to ask for his suggestions. Does anyone know where I should start with his books? What's a good introduction to his theology? I wanted to get his "Eschatology of the Old Testament" but wasn't sure if I should read something more of an introductory nature first. Is there possibly a book by someone else that covers Vos' thought?

Vos' Biblical Theology is a classic, but I've not read it, and I hear it's quite difficult reading. Graeme Goldsworthy has also written books on biblical theology, According to Plan, and three books now sold as the "Goldsworthy Trilogy."

Okay, thanks a lot! Biblical Theology is difficult reading? Maybe I'm up for the challenge. I'll look into Goldsworthy to, I appreciate the help!

Goldsworthy is easier and you get the same stuff.

If you want to read the hard, Dutch guys, I would go with Herman Ridderbos. Vos is good and he really helped me out at a time, but much of biblical theology has moved on, asked different questions, etc. He has insights for us, but he can't be made the final word.

Thanks for the advice, I may just take it! Goldsworthy may just be the place to start!

If you get Goldworthy, get "According to Plan." The trilogy is almost too easy.
