What do you do for a living?
Right now I am a C.N.C. Machinist. My wife and I had been professional childcare workers (House Parents) for the past 15 years and may eventually return to that. She does it on her own at them moment actually.

I tutor for Huntington Learning Center and I love it! I taught school for years and this has that beat hands down. I come in, teach good kids who want to learn, and go home--no tests to write, no parents to call, no detention, etc.

Re: What do you do for a living?
For the past several years I have been an insurance agent. The particular field I was in (selling Medicare health plans) presents some unique challenges, but overall I have really enjoyed it. It also gave me the opportunity to meet people who knew my paternal grandparents (both of whom had passed on by the time I was 8 years old) that otherwise I probably wouldn't have ever met.
Recently I've had some challenges due to some medical issues that temporarily prevent me from driving, so that has set me back for a few months. Soon I'll be starting to try to sell over the phone and am also looking for some other work to tide me over for the next 4 months or so, which is when I hope to be driving again.

Re: What do you do for a living?
I'm a library assistant for SAPL, the San Antonio Public Library. I love my job! I first got into it, strangely enough, because I was involved in the puppet ministry at a former church. A librarian found out about that and asked my brothers and me if we could do a few shows at the library for their summer program. It worked out well, and God wove events together over the next couple years so that I was able to get a job shelving at that branch. This librarian then promptly put me in charge of the puppets for the children's programming. Since Feb 07 I have been working at the same branch and I've been promoted, so I can concentrate on children's programming. Our branch has the BEST children's programming in all of SAPL, and despite the difficulties getting programs together, it is definitely worth it.

Re: What do you do for a living?
I do inventory control for a local packaging company. My job consists of keeping track of all incoming / outgoing finished goods and raw materials, doing employee incentive reports, and of course counting stuff. I'm kind of an unofficial tech support guy too, but nothing deep like computer programming. I'm just the guy all the women call when they don't know how to change the size of a picture or when somebody needs to map a thumb drive.
My wife is going to school for human development / English. She also baby sits, cleans houses, and right now has a part time weekend job.

HEY!! I resemble that remark!
(actually if it wasn't for people like you, my poor mother in Indiana would still be staring at her computer, wondering how to make the lights in the magic box dance.)

Re: What do you do for a living?
I'm a mixer operator for National Gypsum Company. We make concrete backerboard. You might have seen our products in Lowes or Home Depot under the brands PermaBase or Daltile. Except for a three year Army enlistment I've mainly worked in manufacturing so I like my job for the field I'm in. I'm not necessarily thrilled about my field. Hence my motivation to return to school!

And I am full-time carer for my wife, also unpaid but compensated to a reasonable level by our wonderful socialist state...

Re: What do you do for a living?
As Adam started this topic he said he is a CNC machine operator, so am I. I/we work for a very large world wide mining/construction company called Atlas Copco. We make rock drilling bits. I am the so called "lead man" for the 3rd shift. No glory or extra pay in the title, just added responsibility, and stress. I enjoy the field because it comes rather easily to me, but I'm tiring rather quickly of it. I'd love to work in a motorcycle shop some day. May be some day if the economy ever picks back up. Jeesh ! I really need to stop rambling so much

So true.
